'WHIRLIGIG' TELEVISION PROGRAMME

Screened 'live' on alternate Saturdays to 'SATURDAY SPECIAL'.
There are most probably no examples of either in the BBC archive?
 - - - - - -

Some of the WHIRLIGIG 'personnel' were:

Humphrey Lestocq - Mr. Turnip's sidekick, referred to as 'H. L.' = presume there was a man inside the outfit, as one could not spot the strings. Any thoughts on this?

Peter Hawkins
- voice of Mr. Turnip.
Peter was also the voice of Porterhouse, the Parrot that was a featured character on the alternate Saturdays programme - 'Saturday Special'. Obviously passed the audition, as he then went on to provide the voice of characters in other popular television programmes, notably:

BILL & BEN THE FLOWERPOT MEN
CAPTAIN PUGWASH
(all? characters)
DR WHO
(1960's Daleks & Cybermen)
THE ADVENTURES OF SIR PRANCELOT (early 70's Cartoon series)
RAINBOW
(Zippy).

Added 23rd August 2006:
Sadly, Peter Hawkins passed away in July 2006.
Although not a comprehensive study, his memory will be everlasting on this site!

Francis Coudrill - with his Puppet creations Hank the Cowboy, horse Silver King, Freddie Parrot, Cassy, baddie Mexican Pete, Big Chief Laughing Gas, Big Chief Dirty Face, Little He-He.

Rolf Harris - another artist / cartoonist. Most probably his British Television debut.

Edmundo Ros - musician
(some LP's in stock!)
Steve Race - musician (pianist)
