think I should clear up the David Bowie situation once and for all.
Laurence Myers of the Gem Group wanted to make records with me and
represent me in the musical world. As he represents David Bowie, who
he believed would be the successor to Bob Dylan, he arranged for us
to meet which we duly did in London. We both got on very well
together and after David had played a bit on his guitar and I had
sung, he asked me if I would like to make records with him. I
said that I would be delighted to do so, providing we could find the
right material and this is where the whole idea came to a dead
stop. I have sung to and been heard by David Bowie, Tony
McAuley, David Paramour, Coulter and Martin and many others. They
have all commented on the power and sound of my voice. They
have all also made it quite clear that none of them was able to
think of any way whatever in which they could write music for my
voice. As one of them put it to me - 'We simply wouldn't know how to start for a voice such as yours. None of our clients have real voices, our styles of writing are totally different from anything we could think of for you. And indeed to be frank, your voice too powerful and good'. Interesting comment. However, I am not deterred by this and I am determined to go ahead in any way I can. If one is presented with a gift of this kind, one should certainly use it, particularly in the entertainment world." |
